Chris Damants

This is one of the great feel good stories of all time.

Chris Damants, 59 and born in Memphis, has struggled with health and physical problems most of his life.

At the age of 26, Chris began to suffer from Epileptic Seizures.

While going to work at Kimberley Clark in 1972, he had a seizure and crashed his car into the lobby of the Alamo Plaza Hotel on Summer Ave.  The police thought he was driving intoxicated and arrested him and put him in jail.  While "cooling it" in jail they discovered what his real problem was and that he wasn't intoxicated as suspected.

He kept working as he had a wife and 2 children to care for but things didn't get better.Chris Damants

He went through brain surgery twice to try and stop the seizures.  He even had part of his brain removed during both surgeries.

Though the surgeries were not successful - he still has seizures - he continues to bowl even after the partial loss of use of his left arm which he severely broke in an accident.

Damants started bowling at Imperial Lanes when it opened in 1958.

Prior to March 5, 2007, his high score for a game was 245 but on that date every bowler's dream came true.  Little did Chris know that that day all the stars and planets would line-up and provide him with the biggest thrill of his life.

After all strikes in his 3rd game in the Senior Scratch League at Imperial, he rolled his 10th ball and at the last second the 5 pin tripped out and fell giving him 10-in-a-row.

After that heart-stopping strike, he then rolled the next two flush for his first ever perfect 300 game.  He had games of 256, 208 and 300 to give him his highest series ever at 764.

Chris is a quiet and unassuming gentleman and through all his trials he still participates in the sport he loves so much.

You never know when everything will line-up and break your way and give you that great feeling you've always dreamed of.

Well done Chris!

A sad note to this article - Chris unexpectantly died on May 13, 2008 at the age of 60.
